In the distant future, the interstellar corporation Cortex leads millions of refugees in a migratory fleet across the galaxy in search of resources and a new home. When they find Aphelion, a thriving planet rich with life, Cortex starts mining operations on the planet using Necrotrons, industrial mechs that use deceased human brain tissue as their central processors. One day, Cortex digs too deep and awakens a dormant entity in Aphelion’s core -- Boliden. To defend the planet, Boliden resurrects the dead across Aphelion’s surface, enslaving the Necrotron brains in the process. Now, a war has broken out between Boliden – with its army of Necrotron Thralls – and Cortex, with innocents on both sides caught in the crossfire. In a desperate attempt for support, Cortex enlists the help of a mercenary company, of which the Colors are a part of. Reluctantly answering the call, it will be up to the Squad to decide what is worth saving in this world.
Designer Notes
This module reshapes the status quo by thrusting the Squad into a ruthless, alien world inspired by media like Invasion of Astro-Monster and the Armored Core series. This harsh Necro-punk setting presents unique opportunities to craft stories dominated by tough decisions within themes of existentialism and human legacy. The lines of morality aren’t so cut and dry in this world. There are multiple gray area groups and characters all with legitimate arguments and wants. How do the Colors function against those?
